They play football in France? Not soccer, but real American football? And they want me?
Those were the questions that North Chatham native Matt Polhemus asked himself - and strongly doubted the sincerity of - this past October upon reading an e-mail from Les Cougars head coach Xavier Mas, who wanted to know if the former Nauset Regional High School, Phillips Exeter Academy and Yale University quarterback was willing to take snaps from center in the land of wine and cheese.
"At first I thought it was a joke, maybe one of my friends or ex-teammates having some fun with me," said Polhemus.
When he realized the offer wasn't a puerile prank, and that there really are pigskins and pylons in Paris, it didn't take Polhemus long to say "oui" to Les Cougars of St. Ouen L'aumone, one of 10 teams in the semi-professional football league called Fédération Française de Football Américain (3FA).
